Residential
When taking on a residential interior design project, my goal is to create spaces that feel personal, functional, and inspiring. Each project is a journey, and the process is very much centred around collaboration with my clients to ensure their vision is realised while making the most of the space available. Here’s a step-by-step overview of how the process works below.

How Residential Interior Design Projects Work
How Residential Interior Design Projects Work
Designing a residential space is all about creating a home that reflects your personality, meets your practical needs, and enhances your lifestyle. Whether it’s a full renovation, a single room refresh, or expert advice on styling, the process is always collaborative and tailored to your specific vision. Here's a step-by-step guide to how I work on residential interior design projects:
1. Initial Consultation & Brief
The first step is always getting to know you and your vision for the space. During our initial consultation, I’ll ask about your needs, personal style, and how you envision the space functioning. We’ll discuss everything from colour preferences and furniture choices to specific features you’d like to incorporate. I also take the time to understand the practical aspects of the project, such as your budget, timeline, and any structural or architectural considerations. This helps set clear expectations and ensures that we are aligned from the start.
2. Concept Development & Creative Exploration
Once I have a clear understanding of your needs, I begin developing the initial design concept. This is where the creative process starts, and I use a range of tools to explore different ideas and styles:
Sketches: I start by sketching rough ideas to visualise the layout and flow of the space. These early sketches help establish the direction for the design and give us a starting point for discussions.
Moodboards & Pinboards: To capture the aesthetic direction, I create moodboards that combine colour palettes, textures, materials, and furniture ideas that resonate with the overall vision. These boards help you visualise how the design will come together and allow for early feedback and adjustments.
3D Models: Once the concept starts to take shape, I create 3D models of the space. These provide a more realistic view of the design and allow you to see how the space will look in three dimensions. 3D models are especially helpful for visualising furniture layouts, colour schemes, and how different design elements will interact in the space.
3. Design Refinement & Client Feedback
At this stage, I present the initial design concept to you for feedback. We’ll review the sketches, moodboards, and 3D models together, discussing what works well and what might need to be adjusted. Whether it’s tweaking the layout, changing the furniture pieces, or refining colour choices, the goal is to make sure that the design feels right for you and meets both your functional and aesthetic preferences.
4. Final Design & Implementation
Once we’ve finalised the design, I move on to the detailed planning phase. I create full design specifications for all the elements in the space, including:
Furniture and decor layouts
Colour schemes
Lighting design
Materials and finishes
I also manage the sourcing and procurement of the furniture and materials, ensuring everything aligns with the vision and budget.
Styling: As the final touch, I offer styling services to perfect the look of the space, from arranging furniture to selecting decorative accessories and artworks that complete the design.
Photography: If desired, I can photograph the finished space for my portfolio and for you to have as a record of the transformation.
5. Completion & Client Satisfaction
The final goal is to create a space that feels like home, is functional, and aligns with your personal style. Once the project is complete, I conduct a final walk-through to make sure everything is in place and that you are happy with the result. If there are any last-minute adjustments, I ensure they are taken care of before we wrap up the project.
Through sketches, moodboards, 3D models, and your feedback throughout the process, we’ll create a space that is both visually appealing and functional, designed to enhance your day-to-day life and bring your vision to life.
